Last fall a few weeks before Halloween, I believe, I was at home alone with the girls. Mr Swan was working a double shift. It was around 11 pm and I was watching Little House on the Prarie (I should probably learn how to spell it though). The unlocked side door opened and closed. It was not a windy night, rather still for fall. I thought Mr Swan got off work early. Someone walked down the stairs to the basement. The walking was not like shoes clapping on floors, it was the cadenced movement of steps creaking the floor. I looked around the corner from where I was sitting in my kitchen and waited for him to come back up. The footsteps came back up the stairs and by then I realized it was not him. I was thinking there was an intruder or something and wanted to go into the kitchen to get my phone but the footsteps were heading right back there. I stayed where I was wracking my brain what to do. The footsteps got to the kitchen...I didn't see anyone but could hear the kitchen floor squeaking as if someone was walking around. The footsteps came into the hallway of the living room where I was, then dissappeared.
Finally realizing that no one was there, I got up looked around and tried rationalizing away. Simple really: It was not the house doing old house things, it has never ever done that before or again. Although other things have happened. The house was not creaking due to wind, old age or settling, because I have lived here now for 7 years and know what that sounds like. It was, as I said, a cadenced movement and then it was just gone.
No, I wasn't drinking at all that night. No, I was not half asleep. No, I hadn't been using drugs. No, it wasn't something that I imagined, I was ready to call the police had my phone been by me. No, it wasn't my imagination being stoked by scary movies or the like, as I said I was watching Little House.
my experience copied and pasted from this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/139091/1.ashx My husband heard the footsteps as well on another occasion btw.

NWT more Accurate?
by buffalosrfree inrecently heard a commnent from an elder that the nwt was the most accurate bible translation.
that even on the jeopardy game show it was shown or that one of the questions pertained to the bible and the nwt being the most accurate translation.
i find this exceedingly hard to swallow as it is full of errors 237 i can think of right off the bat.

If he really really thought that NWT was the most accurate Bible and he believes the Bible is the Word of God, why isn't he a JW?

What version of the Bible do you use, and why?
Thought you would find this very interesting. Recently on Jeopardy one of the questions was....."What is the most accurate translation of the Holy Scriptures?" No one got the correct answer, so Alex Trebek said "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, printed by Watchtower Bible Tract Society."
The research was from the book: "TRUTH IN TRANSLATION: ACCURACY AND BIAS IN ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT"
Author: Jason David BeDuhn is the Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. He holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Illinois, an M.T.S. in New Testament and Christian Origins form Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Study of Religions form Indiana University, Bloomington.
The Nine English Translations Compared in BeDuhn's book are:
- The King James Version (KJV)
- The Amplified Bible (AB)
- The Living Bible (LB)
- The New American Bible (NAB)
- The New American Standard Bible (NASB)
- The New International Version (NIV)
- The New World Translation (NW)
- The (New) Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
- Today's English Version (TEV) -

Whoopi Goldberg on The VIew
by changeling inshe actually came out in defense of michael vick.
she said in some parts of the south dog fights are common so we must understand where he's comming from.. well, in some parts of the south people discriminate against african americans.
are we supposed to excuse them, understand them?

It's not only in the south. On some tv show I think it's called Animal Cops they showed dog fighting houses that were in Detroit.
http://www.realdetroitweekly.com/article_1868.shtml About a year ago I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman who rescues pitbulls. I was shocked and disgusted to find out how common it is in my area. What people put these dogs through is disgusting. It's not a South thing, it's an animal cruelty thing.

Penny pinching hints and tips
by Junction-Guy inok, the lemonade thread has prompted me to ask does anyone else have any clever and legal ways to pinch pennies, like the guy did with the lemonade?.

Oh yeah, keep a calculator with you. Do the math. Always always always do the math.
Be wary about warehouse clubs. The cost to join should pay for itself a few times over through the year's membership or it's not worth it.
I hear people talk about going out for dinner or whatnot and buffets etc.
A few things to consider:
a) Get the restaurant food without the cost: get it to go. Without the cost of the beverage, tip and dessert, the price drops significantly.
b) If you're cooking for one, compare the cost of how much it will take to make your favorite dish to how much it will cost to buy it from your favorite restaurant. It might surprise you that after you add it up, sometimes it's cheaper to get the meal from the restaurant.
c) Forget the pop altogether and just drink water.
Trade with people you trust. I found a few mom's around here where we trade babysitting. The concept can be applied to many different things.
Farmers Markets for produce or summer landscaping can yield more for less.
Oh yeah.....haha..this is the best part:
Candy!
Stock up on it at the major holidays. Halloween, Christmas and Easter are the three big ones. Huge bags of great candy for less. I was at the store around July and overheard a mother commenting how they still had candy from Easter and so refused to buy her daughter more.
Be Careful about ebay though please. I Know people who go to places like the Outlet centers, buy things and then mark them up signifcantly then their original cost at the outlet center. Pottery Barn is the first that comes to mind because my nephew and his wife have done just that. They purchase from there and then mark it up to make a profit. For some people this works well because there are absolutely no outlet centers around them and so it's still worth it.
However, google like crazy to see if there are any outlet places in your state and then keep track of the things you need and make a once a year or twice a year visit to go and get what you need yourself.

use cold water in the washing machine
cut down on the amt of laundry detergent. Usually half the amount that is recommended will work just as well for a normal load.
Don't let the hot water run when getting your shower ready
While getting the shower ready put a bucket in there to catch the water that is being wasted and use that for any number of things
Don't buy the throw away ready to use cleaning wipes (dusting, glass etc) just use old towels cut up and wash them.
Go to places like the various dollar stores in your area (we have hundreds of them around here) to buy various cleaning agents and well almost anything you can think of.
Use the library for books and music. (I highly recommend making sure you have a place to put the books which will keep them out of reach of little hands, sinks and also seperate from other books/music items so that they are not misplaced)(if damaged or lost you'll end up paying the cost of replacement)
this might sound stupid, but honestly, just be Nice to the people you Do have to use for professional help. It really can make a huge difference. If you choose to go the route of getting a better deal...
Go into it with a good base knowledge of the product and company you are dealing with. Makes a difference.
Comments have been made about canning and freezing. Canning is a great way to do things. However, it can be costly to get started. While it is worth the investment, check your flea markets and garage sales for supplies.
A dishwasher, from what I've heard, actually does cut down on the amount of water used compared to washing dishes by hand. However, don't use the drying option. Let them dry naturally. A few spots never hurt anyone.
If your windows are older, get them replaced if possible. OR use plastic to cover them during the winter months especially.

Out-of-body experiences recreated in a lab
by acsot inwonder what paranormal believers will make of this.
british and swiss researchers have succeeded in deliberately inducing out-of-body sensations.

As I said before it does not explain why there are numerous experiences where people have had out of body experiences have been able to return to their body with information regarding people, places and events that they had no other way of knowing.
I'm not saying these people have left their body and returned, I'm not saying they have a soul etc However there are too many reports of the above happening which this test does not explain.
However this test only shows how a persons brain can be stimulted to recreate a certain sensation and that's all.
Not too exciting imo.
